Product Details
- Real-time Results- this integrated system reports metabolic rates in just minutes, without sample extraction or labeling. Wave software controls the instrument and performs rate measurements on the fly for same day results.
- Live-Cell Responses – detect responses to substrates, inhibitors, and other compounds in real time via the 4-port injection system and automated mixing while maintaining physiologic temperature (37oC).
- Sensitive- analyze as few as 10,000 cells per well in the custom 24-well plate. Cell number requirements vary by cell type; consult the Cell Reference Database for details. The 24-well microplate and system has capacity for larger and/or more metabolically active samples than the 96-well system.
- Compatible with a variety of samples due to the precision-controlled heating tray, which can maintain 16-42oC (12oC-20oC above ambient conditions).
- Analyze function of islet or other mobile samples with the Seahorse XF24 Islet Capture Plate
- Measure mitochondrial function with the Seahorse XF Cell Mito Stress Test
- Quantify ATP production by Glycolysis and OXPHOS simultaneously with the Seahorse XF real-time ATP rate assay
- Generate a metabolic phenotype within one hour with the Seahorse XF Cell Energy Phenotype Test
- Measure glycolytic rates in live cells with the Seahorse XF Glycolytic Rate Assay
- Quickly determine dependency of cellular energy production on mitochondrial substrates with the Seahorse XF Mito Fuel Flex Test
- Easily create assay protocols and analyze data with Seahorse Wave software
- For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Beyond Lactate: Measuring Glycolytic Rates in Live Cells with the Agilent Seahorse XF Glycolytic Rate Assay
Glycolysis is a critical process in both normal cellular function and diseases such as cancer. Cells readily switch between this energy producing pathway and mitochondrial respiration, depending on energy demand and nutrient availability. As such, knowing how much glycolysis is being used by cells at any moment in time is important for understanding the interaction between metabolic activity and cell function. When glycolysis proceeds to completion, lactate and protons are extruded from the cell. The Seahorse XF Glycolytic Rate Assay Kit measures the resulting acidification rates and accounts for mitochondrial acidification to deliver the most accurate acidification-based measurement available.
Seahorse Metabolic Analyzers Enable Rapid, Quantitative Measurement of Cellular Bioenergetics
Seahorse technology is based on measuring the rate of extracellular fluxes of analytes in the media surrounding cells. Seahorse assays enable quantification of cellular bioenergetics by measuring the two energy yielding pathways, mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis, in a sensitive and convenient microplate format. A cell’s ability to respond to increased energy, biosynthetic and redox demands are in a large part influenced by two fundamental pathways, mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to XF Bioenergetic Assays
XF Extracellular Flux technology is commonly used to measure cellular bioenergetics, and determine the role of metabolism in regulating cell phenotype. From measuring basic intracellular mitochondrial function, XF analysis has now evolved to employing multiple assays for the measurement of mitochondrial substrate selectivity and glycolysis. In addition XF Analyzers are also used to measure the function of isolated mitochondria, enabling the examination of mitochondria from multiple samples simultaneously, saving valuable time and resources.
