Inhibin is a dimeric glycoprotein hormone comprised of an α and a ß subunit. It is produced by ovarian granulosa cells and inhibits the production or secretion of pituitary gonadotropins, particularly follicle-stimulating hormone. The antibody was raised against the terminal 1-32 amino acid sequence of the inhibin α subunit. The antibody is a useful aid for classification of sex-cord-stromal tumors.

Specificity
Clone R1, according to inhibition results from radioimmunoassay, demonstrates a much greater preference for human 1-32 than for bovine (73 fold) or porcine (23 fold) peptides. The antibody also reacts with some of the multiple molecular forms of inhibin found in both bovine and human follicular fluids (1). See package insert for reference(s).
