Thermal Conductivity Detector
The thermal conductivity detector (TCD) is a universal detector for gas chromatography that responds to virtually any compound, excluding the carrier gas. It is generally used for the GC analysis of permanent gases, light hydrocarbons, and compounds that do not respond well to a flame ionization detector (FID).
The single-filament TCD used on Agilent Intuvo 9000, 8890, 8860, and 7890 GC systems does not require a separate reference gas or manual potentiometer adjustment yet provides a stable baseline with a minimal amount of signal drift commonly seen with other TCDs that utilize valve switching.

Features
- Minimum detectable level is 400 pg tridecane/mL for Intuvo 9000, 8890, and 7890B GCs and less than 800 pg tridecane/mL for the 8860 GC (may be affected by the laboratory environment)
- Linear dynamic range greater than 10^5 (± 5%) for Intuvo 9000, 8890, and 7890B GCs and 10^5 (± 10%) for the 8860 GC
- Unique fluidic switching design provides rapid stabilization from turn on with low drift
- Single polarity can be run-programmed for components having higher thermal conductivity than the carrier gas (Intuvo 9000, 8890, and 7890B GCs)
- Standard EPC for two gases (helium, hydrogen, or nitrogen) matched to carrier gas type (Intuvo 9000, 8890, 8860, and 7890B GCs)
- 400 °C operating temperature
- Can be mounted as a third detector on the left side of the 8890, 8860, and 7890 GCs or as an auxiliary detector on top of the 8890 GC
