Agilent High Matrix Introduction (HMI) technology, supplied as standard on the 7800 ICP-MS, uses an innovative, computer-controlled, and reproducible aerosol dilution approach that reduces the aerosol loading on the plasma. This allows the plasma to tolerate much higher total dissolved solids (TDS) levels than the 0.1 to 0.2% that is typical for ICP-MS.
HMI dilutes the sample aerosol using clean, dry argon gas, completely eliminating the disadvantages of liquid dilution (time, reagent costs, risk of contamination, dilution errors).
