The Agilent 8850 Gas Chromatograph (GC) System is the smallest, fastest high-performance benchtop GC on the market. With a footprint about half that of conventional GC systems, you can have two 8850 GCs running simultaneously without sacrificing valuable bench space. The 8850 uses the same inlets, detectors, and EPC as the 8890 to deliver equivalent analytical results.
This energy-efficient GC has a compact oven for fast thermal cycling. Built-in diagnostics, troubleshooting, and ease-of-maintenance can optimize uptime and sample throughput.
For the US market, the Agilent GC system is manufactured in Wilmington, DE; the Delaware facility has implemented energy and water reduction measures within the past 5 years. Some initiatives include implementing an LED retrofit, replacing rooftop cooling coils with higher efficiency coils, installing a rainwater collection system for on-stie irrigation, and upgrading washrooms with touchless faucets. For the EU and UK markets, the Agilent GC system is manufactured in Shanghai, China; the Shanghai facility has implemented initiatives to reduce its energy and water consumption within the last 5 years. These initiatives include vacuum capacity improvement projects, implementing off-peak demand reduction initiatives, and installing RO and DI water treatment systems at the facility to reuse water on-site.
The Wilmington, Delaware and Shanghai, China facilities that manufacture the Agilent GC system source renewable energy from their respective on-site solar photovoltaic systems.
The Wilmington, Delaware and Shanghai, China facilities that manufacture the Agilent GC system have implemented robust EMS policies and procedures, including ISO 14001 certification. Further, the Agilent GC system is EU RoHS compliant and does not contain any substances of concern as defined by the ACT v1.3 Standard (e.g., EU REACH SVHC, ILFI Red List chemicals, or GreenScreen BM-1 chemicals).
For the US market, the Agilent GC system is manufactured in Wilmington, DE and distributed to the US market via a distribution center in Memphis, Tennessee. For the EU and UK markets, the Agilent GC system is manufactured in Shanghai, China and distributed to the US, EU, and UK markets via a distribution center in Waghäusel, Germany. Note: European customers can choose to have the product manufactured at a different location, but these additional facilities have not been audited for this specific ACT label. Instruments ordered in Europe have a zero cost option to be built at Waldbronn, Germany facility.
The Agilent GC system consist largely of steel, electronics, and plastic components. The steel used contains recycled material.
The packaging for the Agilent GC system consists primarily of cardboard, PE foam, and a polyethylene bag. The cardboard and foam both contain recycled material.
The energy consumption of the Agilent GC system was measured following the My Green Lab Energy Testing Protocol for Gas Chromatography. Per the protocol, the energy use of the equipment was measured while it performed a typical high-resolution pesticide analysis; it is assumed that the system is run continuously for 8 hours per day and is then in standby for the remainder of the 24-hour period.
The Agilent GC system does not require water to function properly during use phase.
The Agilent GC system is guaranteed under the Agilent Value Promise to have a useable lifetime of at least 10 years. Further, Agilent's service guarantee extends at least 7 years following the end of production for that instrument. Based on the system's predecessor, the expected lifetime of the system is upwards of 20 years.
The Agilent GC products' packaging materials include a cardboard box, poly-bag and EPE foam. In the US market, the cardboard box is readily recyclable. The plastic packaging materials are somewhat recyclable or landfilled. In select EU member countries, Agilent participates in an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme to support the take-back and responsible management of the packaging materials at their end-of-life. In the remaining EU countries, the cardboard box is readily recyclable while the plastic packaging materials are recycled, landfilled or incinerated via a waste-to-energy recovery process depending on the available infrastructure. In the UK market, Agilent participates in an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme to support the take-back and responsible management of the packaging materials at their end-of-life.
Agilent has an active take-back program for its customers in the EU, UK, and US markets. Furthermore, Agilent encourages its customers to return the product at end-of-life by offering an incentive where the product can be traded-in for a refurbished model, new model, or a cash / credit balance
The Agilent GC system features electronic pneumatics control (EPC) modules that allow for the use of an alternative carrier gas as opposed to the standard carrier gas, Helium. This has environmental benefits as helium is considered a non-renewable resource.
