The Agilent Delaware facility that manufactures the Agilent 5977C GC/MSD products has implemented policies and procedures to understand, manage, and communicate on hazardous chemistries throughout the value chain. Suppliers must ensure their raw materials comply with Agilent's General Specification for the Environment (GSE) which screens for hazardous chemistries such as EU REACH SVHCs and Proposition 65 chemicals. Further, the Agilent 5977C GC/MSD products are EU RoHS compliant, and the Delaware manufacturing facility is ISO 14001 certified.

In the US, the cardboard is readily recyclable; while the plastic bag and foam are recyclable, the infrastructure is not available in the majority of the market. In the US, Agilent is enrolled in the How2Recycle program to facilitate the communication of material recycling instructions. In select countries, Agilent participates in the EU/UK Green DOT Package Recycling Program to support the take-back and responsible management of the packaging materials at their end-of-life. In the remaining EU countries, the cardboard is readily recyclable while the plastic packaging materials are recycled, landfilled or incinerated depending on the country and its available infrastructure.

The Agilent 5977C GC/MSD products offer a hydrogen-optimized configuration in which helium gas is replaced with hydrogen gas in the mobile phase of operation. Helium is considered less sustainable than hydrogen due to its non-renewable status. The hydrogen-optimized configuration therefore reduces the overall environmental impact of using the Agilent 5977C GC/MSD products.
