Analysis of Pesticides in Complex Food Matrices
Food safety laboratories routinely analyze large numbers of complex food samples for hundreds of pesticides, using a targeted acquisition approach based on triple quadrupole mass spectrometry. Quantitation of analytes follows regional government guidelines and requires routine calibration with costly analytical-grade standards.
Cost-efficient expansion of the testing capabilities beyond the target compound list is in urgent demand as laboratories around the world increase the number of pesticides to be monitored. Routine quantitation/calibration is reasonable for frequently occurring priority compounds but can be delayed for the rarer occurring suspect compounds until found during initial sample screening.
With recent technological breakthroughs, the quantitation suitability of Q-TOF systems has significantly improved, and Q-TOF is growing into a fit-for-purpose platform for laboratories that need simultaneous quantitation of priority targets, and suspect screening for a broader list of pesticides, with a streamlined data analysis workflow.
