Selection Antibiotics - Details & Specifications
G418 Sulfate
- Selects eukaryotic cells stably transfected with neomycin-resistant genes
- Useful as a selective agent in gene transfer experiments
- Supplied as a crystalline solid or aqueous solution
Supplied as a crystalline solid or aqueous solution, C20 H40 ON4 · 2H2 SO4
MOLECULAR WEIGHT: 496.5 (base) and 692.7 (sulfate)
CONCENTRATION: For the selection of Neor cells use 10 to 500 mg/L. Optimal concentrations are determined experimentally and vary by cell type.
TESTING CONDITIONS: G418 Sulfate is quality tested by applying the resuspended sulfate to NIH3T3 cells that have been transfected with a plasmid, pWLneo, containing the neomycin-resistant gene. After 2 weeks of treatment, the transfection is screened for the formation of stable colonies.
