Periodic maintenance is recommended removing any residue from syringe to avoid accumulative impact on increasing barrel inner roughness and plunger wear. The period will depend on your samples. If the samples are dirty or viscous, it is recommended to perform daily maintenance. General steps are:

Remove the plunger from the barrel and check the plunger wear. Gently wipe the plunger with a lint-free tissue for 2–3 times. Be careful not to remove the PTFE tip from the plunger for the PTFE-tipped syringe
Immerse the plunger into a cleaning agent for seconds. Cleaning agents will usually depend on the contaminating materials, but methanol, methylene chloride acetonitrile, and acetone are commonly used. If the contaminating materials are highly lipophilic or viscous, 10–30 % sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) aqueous solution can be used.
Re-insert the plunger into the barrel. Clean thoroughly by rinsing 10–20 times with cleaning agent.
Flush the syringe with DI water for 10–15 times for removing the cleaning agent residues.
Flush the syringe with acetone for 5–10 times.
Immerse the needle into acetone for seconds and wipe it with a lint-free tissue for 2–3 times.
Wipe the external barrel with a lint-free tissue for 2–3 times.
Air dry for storage.
