Extensive Raman libraries for confident material ID
- The Resolve tactical handheld Raman analyzer enables rapid identification of unknowns through sealed, opaque containers, thanks to its extensive onboard libraries. A spectral database of more than 13,000 Raman spectra, the Resolve libraries include explosives and precursors, hazardous and toxic materials, chemical warfare agents, narcotics and new psychoactive substances (NPS), household products, and less commonly used chemicals.
- Resolve Raman libraries are updated regularly to ensure up-to-date detection, e.g., to include new and emerging NPS. The three available library packages help Resolve users ensure they have the best solution for their needs.

Technology
Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS)
Spatially offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) is a unique way to analyze objects when the contents are behind non-transparent layers or containers.
Handheld & Portable Raman Spectrometers
The development of handheld Raman spectrometers sparked a step change in portable spectroscopy applications, enabling users to conduct measurements in the field, wherever required. Agilent portable Raman systems use SORS to measure through opaque containers in pharmaceutical raw material ID, hazmat, CBRN, and policing.
How it works
Resolve libraries
The Resolve tactical handheld Raman analyzer is provided with fully loaded, ready-to-use libraries, including chemical and safety metadata. The large onboard library enables rapid identification of a wide range of materials.
Create your own libraries on the go using the User Library feature. Or deploy new libraries with local variants of threats or items of interest to a fleet of Resolves using the supporting Command software.
Select the right package for you
To support the wide range of applications Resolve is suitable for, multiple library packages are available.
When placing an order for a Resolve analyzer, select the desired package to be installed in your unit before delivery:
- Standard
- Toxic and Hazardous
- Comprehensive
An additional chemical warfare agents (CWA) library is also available subject to export controls.
Support and Reachback
Resolve’s high performance and regular library releases are targeted to capture emerging threats. Library updates are released every 6 months and are included with Resolve for the first year.
The Reachback service supports users with any spectroscopic queries. Send your Reachback request directly from your Resolve when connected to WiFi or upload your scans to our website.
Applications
Screening applications and general use
With around 1,100 items, the Standard Resolve package has a library that contains explosives, narcotics, and a small number of general chemicals. This package is suitable for applications where the user is “screening” for the threat materials above: e.g., a security checkpoint where items are screened to check if they are a threat. If they are not one of the threat materials, the user does not care what else it may be.
Tactical deployments
The Toxic and Hazardous Materials package library contains around 7,100 hazardous and general chemicals (including the Standard Package). This makes it suitable for most hazmat applications, and other applications where the user is trying to identify an unknown substance.
The Toxic and Hazardous Materials library is the minimum package recommended for fire and rescue departments, prevention sites, hazmat, EOD, customs and border control, and law enforcement.
Advanced applications
The Comprehensive package library adds approximately 6,000 items to the Toxic and Hazardous option, making this the ultimate package of around 13,400 items. These additional comprehensive items are a mixture of natural products, synthetic chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. It should be deployed where the user is seeking to identify the widest possible range of materials.

Latest Agilent Resolve Raman Library Version Released
Agilent has released the latest version of its Resolve Raman Library, version 41, which adds 142 additional items to the Narcotics and New Psychoactive Substances spectral library. To support this release, three application briefs are now available, introducing some of the entries in the nitazene, fentanyl, and benzodiazepine families.

Resolve Receives Recognition for CBRN Excellence from UK National CBRN Centre
The Agilent Resolve handheld Raman spectrometer has been recognized for excellence as a tool for emergency responders following independent use and evaluation by the UK’s National CBRN Centre. The Resolve instrument received the National CBRN Centre Certificate of Merit for 2023, recognizing the value of the Resolve instrument, and the added services and responsivity Agilent provides to its customers. The award was presented in recognition of Agilent’s ongoing service and support to the National CBRN Centre and multi-agency partners, strengthening the UK’s ability to respond to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.

Agilent Resolve Awarded Highest Score Amongst Handheld Raman Devices in DHS Report
In the United States, the Agilent Resolve was awarded the highest overall score amongst handheld Raman devices available in the market in an assessment conducted by the Department of Homeland Security's System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) program. In the independent evaluation performed by emergency responders, the Resolve also scored the highest in the "Capability" criterion, exceeding the expectations of all evaluators as it correctly identified samples through all containers used at the assessment.
