Cary WinUV Color Measurement Software

Cary WinUV Color Application

Measure, analyze, and report color with confidence

  • In many industries, colorimetry—the process of monitoring the hue and consistency of a product&#146s color—is essential for quality control. Cary WinUV Color software enhances the capabilities of Cary spectrophotometers, adding versatile color measurement tools for QA/QC monitoring or deeper color investigations of liquids and solids. Whether for brand recognition, perceived quality, overall aesthetics, or specific applications like cosmetics, Cary WinUV Color ensures precise color measurement under various lighting conditions.
  • Cary WinUV Color includes all major, internationally accepted color calculations in a simple, configurable sequence. Reports are automatically generated using the selected color coordinate system, including chromaticity, tristimulus, and CIELAB values. The software quickly produces routine QA/QC reports—and has the power to investigate subtle color differences in investigations that require highly accurate spectrophotometers.
  • Benefit from a concise and comprehensive Color package in a simple application for calculation, reporting, and data export
  • Choose from CIE and other internationally recognized color numbers—CIELAB, L*u*v*, tristimulus, and chromaticity, including graphical displays of color spaces
  • Select up to 50 samples at one time for calculations
  • Perform calculations over one of three selectable wavelength ranges (360 to 830, 380 to 780, or 400 to 700 nm) at one of three data intervals (1, 5, or 10 nm)
  • Apply a thickness correction when comparing the color of samples of varying thicknesses
  • Use the Match feature to highlight the difference between the L*a*b* of a sample and a standard

How it works

Cary WinUV Color measurement

If you need more than a basic colorimeter, and optical performance underpins your needs, Agilent’s Cary double beam spectrophotometers help elevate your color measurement outcomes. The Cary WinUV Color application has been streamlined to ensure the spectrophotometer control defaults to the most convenient setup. Simply select the key color attributes you need and get started. The application prompts you to collect a baseline and data collects begin by clicking the START button. Spectra are displayed during data collection, with graphical plots of the color numbers and tabulated reports automatically generated on completion.

Instrument control

Configure your spectrophotometer using the standard solid sample holder or cell holder for transmitted color. You may also choose a diffuse reflection accessory for reflected color, or the Universal Measurement Accessory for 0/45 deg color measurement and bespoke customer angle color determinations. If you sample is too large, or too irregular in shape to place in the spectrometer, simply use fiber optic-based measurement probes to take your measurement to the sample instead.

Color reporting

Graphical color space plots and tabulated reports are generated for easy review of results. Reports are created with selectable options such as AutoPrint, inclusion of a company logo, auto export data to csv file format, a tabulated X-Y pairs table, a spectral peak table, and more.

Data can be stored in the native Cary WinUV file format, as comma separated variable (CSV) data—with or without method parameters—or in rich text format (RTF).

Applications

Colors for all seasons

The diversity of needs and drivers for color measurements can be extensive. Example applications of UV-Vis color testing can be found in sectors such as foods and beverages, pharmaceuticals, textiles, automotive, plastics, paints, electronics, personal care products, cosmetics, and many more. Colors on canvas

Whether measuring the color of liquids for chemical analysis, bulk solids for color perception, or small objects for investigative tasks or art research, Cary WinUV Color software has it covered. In the following application note, the color of paint pigment on sample areas as small as 2 mm diameter can be measured with ease.

The color of mirrors

It may seem surprising, but the color of mirrors is of great importance in certain applications, particularly in the advanced materials industry. In this example, researchers determined the reflectivity of ultra-thin mirrors used to create visual displays in smart phones. The focus of the study was on angular viewing differences, to ensure that display colors do not change when displays are viewed from different angles.
