Agilent Technologies Announces Winner of Second Annual Early Career Professor Award

SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 29, 2010

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced the winner of the second annual Agilent Early Career Professor Award. Dr. Michelle Chang, assistant professor of chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, has been selected to receive the prize, which provides an unrestricted research award of $50,000 per year for two years to UC Berkeley in support of Professor Chang's research.

Dr. Chang joined the chemistry faculty at UC Berkeley in 2007, where she is making fundamental contributions in the areas of chemistry, molecular and cell biology, and bioengineering. Dr. Chang brings a deep knowledge of chemistry, enzymology, reaction mechanisms, and microbial synthesis pathways, to the challenge of engineering microbes and the development of useful chemicals.

The Agilent Early Career Professor Award, under the auspices of Agilent's University Relations group, is awarded annually to promote and encourage excellence in measurement research. The award seeks to establish strong collaborative relationships between Agilent researchers and leading professors early in their careers, as well as to underscore Agilent's role as a sponsor of university research.

This year's award focused on the field of systems biology. Dr. Chang was among five finalists and many excellent candidates whose research builds on an understanding and relating the different views of biological systems, while contributing to the understanding of life. Criteria for consideration in the competition also included a professor's significant original research contributions enabling measurements of importance to Agilent Technologies and the world.

"We are delighted to recognize Professor Chang as the second recipient of the Agilent Early Career Professor Award," said Jack Wenstrand, director of University Relations at Agilent. "Professor Michelle Chang is a rising star, helping to pioneer the field of synthetic biology. We expect great things from her in the future."
