Polarizer and depolarizer accessories control the plane polarization of the light beam in a spectrophotometer. The unpolarized light emitted by the spectrophotometer's lamp is partially polarized by the instrument optics when it reaches the sample. The selected spectral bandwidth, and photomultiplier used, will also affect the polarizing characteristics of a spectrophotometer.|Various accessory options are available. The manual polarizer is a wire grid, mounted in a slide with dial, designed for Cary 60, 3500 Flexible, 4000, 5000, 6000i, and 7000 UV-Vis and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometers. Glan-Taylor and Glan-Thompson polarizers are used with the universal measurement accessory (UMA), solid sample holders, and diffuse reflectance accessories (DRAs). The depolarizer consists of two crystalline quartz wedges, assembled so that the crystal axes are at 45 degrees. A software-controlled automated polarizer/depolarizer is also available for Cary 4000, 5000, 6000i, and 7000 systems.

Insight Series alarm resolution systems detect and identify explosive threats in liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) at airport security cabin baggage screening. Most Insight system scans take place through sealed containers (ECAC Type B measurement). However, it is also possible to screen open containers by decanting a sample and conducting an ECAC Type A measurement.|Type A or small bulk measurements require a vial, vial cap, and funnel for decanting a sample into a vial. A vial holder accessory holds the vial in the correct measurement position inside an Insight system.

The accessory extends the Cary 60 UV-Vis spectrophotometer’s ability to measure color and gloss properties of many products, ensuring consistency across various industries such as cosmetics, battery components, food products, and packaging.|Designed to fit seamlessly inside the sample compartment of the Cary 60 UV-Vis, the Cary 60 UV-Vis DRA can be set up in less than five minutes.
