Delaware State University Names Agilent its Corporate Partner of the Year
The Agilent and Delaware State University (DSU) partnership includes several impactful initiatives to support underrepresented students in STEM fields. One key initiative is the provision of scholarships, which has enabled many students to pursue their education without the burden of financial stress. Agilent has donated $1 million to DSU, which has funded 21 graduate and undergraduate students in STEM disciplines.
Since 2022, Agilent has donated and pledged nearly $9 million in scholarships, instrumentation, consumables, and services to Delaware State University. These contributions include the establishment of the first endowment for the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (CAST).
Delaware State University President Tony Allen, who also serves as chair of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), announced that the new science building, set to open in spring 2025, will be named the Agilent College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Research Center. This will be only the second building in the university’s history to bear a corporation’s name, following the Bank of America building named in 2008.
Mike Zhang, president of Agilent’s Applied Markets Group (AMG), Greg McKenney, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Supplies Division, and Sally Frank, manager of Agilent’s philanthropic programs, accepted the award, along with 32 Agilent employees who have volunteered their time to support the partnership.
Agilent scholar Jared Bryant expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you, Agilent, for believing in us and fueling our futures.”
Agilent Employees Reflect on the Partnership
“Agilent is honored to receive the Corporate Partner of the Year award. ‘Partner’ is the key word,” said Sally Frank, manager of Agilent’s philanthropic programs.
“While Agilent has donated significant amounts of money, instrumentation, consumables, and services, we have also given our hearts.”
“Hundreds of employees have volunteered their time to mentor, train, and develop relationships with students and professors. DSU professors have leveraged Agilent’s assets to ensure their students maximize the benefits of this partnership. By frequently discussing student progress and DSU’s institutional needs, we aim to maximize and optimize opportunities for underrepresented students to pursue meaningful and lucrative careers in STEM”, added Sally Frank.
Morgan Richardson, leader of the AFO campus hire recruiting program for field service engineer roles, said, “As an employee and a 2006 HBCU recruit, I take immense pride in the Agilent-DSU partnership. Having experienced the uncertainty of funding my own education, I am thrilled that Agilent’s scholarships are alleviating this burden for DSU scholars. Graduating debt-free is a lasting advantage, and the mentorship from Agilent employees and leaders provides invaluable social capital. Agilent’s investment in cutting-edge technology on campus not only benefits the scholars but also positions DSU as a leader in cultivating industry thought leaders. We are truly making good on our mission to diversify the STEM pipeline with this impactful partnership!”
