For cellular immunotherapies such as CAR T cells, clinical outcomes depend on the cytolytic potency and metabolic fitness of the therapeutic product. For their most effective indications, CAR T cells are effective serial killers; each CAR T cell can recognize and lyse several tumor cells. Moreover, what supports the energy cost of synapse formation versus migration, two critical events that underlie serial killing are poorly understood. In this webinar, Dr. Roddy O’Connor introduces “hit & run” serial killing as a conceptual framework underpinning CAR T cell function, and will introduce novel approaches to study how metabolic reprogramming impacts the migratory versus cytolytic aspect of killing.
