Issue:

My Cary is making a screeching noise or initialization has failed.

Error Message / Indication:

When you turn on the Cary power, it makes a screeching noise or initialization has failed errors appear. The errors may include:

  • Error code :9:9305EQ: E9305 unable to initialize instrument Fault reported by the instrument while calibrating peak not detected or too small
  • Error code :9:9301SEQ:E9301 Internal system error seq_cc_invalid_dic See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • Error code :9:9302SEQ:E9302 Unable to initialize instrument Fault reported by instrument while calibrating, shutter open See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • Error code :9:9303SEQ:E9303 Unable to initialize instrument Fault reported by instrument while calibrating, peak transmission too small. See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • Error code :9:9304SEQ:E9304 Unable to initialize instrument Fault reported by instrument while calibrating, peak transmission too large See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • Error code :9:9619SEQ:E9619 Internal system error. Fault reported by the Instrument nmp_cc_datum_not_found. Monochromator intialization failed See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • Error code :9:9328SEQ:E9328 fatal initialization Fault reported by the instrument software while calibrating. See INITIALIZATION FAILURE (E9300 below)
  • E9300 Internal system error INITIALIZATION FAILURE The instrument has failed to initialize properly. During the initialization process the instrument has failed to locate the deuterium 656.1 nm emission line. The following actions are recommended:
    • Make sure that the rear beam is empty.
    • Make sure that the sample compartment lid is closed.
    • Re-power the instrument
    • If the initialization still fails, please check the following:
    • Check the lifetime of the lamp.
    • Older lamps with weak signals can sometimes cause failures.
    • Check the alignment of the deuterium lamp.
    • A misaligned lamp can also cause failure.
    • Optimize the lamp for maximum transmission (%t).

Note: If the instrument fails to find the deuterium emission line, wavelength calibration will be performed using the visible lamp at Zero order. The instrument can still be used. However, the wavelength accuracy will be reduced.

Cause:

  • The mechanical wavelength drive mechanism is sticking or stuck.
  • The UV lamp has not moved into the position or the output is reduced due to age.

Resolution:

  • You may try turning off the power to the Cary and retry the initialization process to see if it will start normally again.
  • Verify UV lamp selection by viewing the turret rotation and that the UV lamp appears at approximately the four o’clock position.
  • Note: Caution UV radiation leakage may be possible please wear safety glasses.
  • Verify that the Sample and Reference beams in the sample compartment are not blocked.

If the solutions suggested above do not remedy the issue, your Cary unit will require a service visit by an Agilent trained Service Engineer to replace the worn or damaged components. Contact your local Agilent trained Service Engineer or submit a Support Related Inquiry.
