The GCMS Translator is a program that converts older GCMS / AIA datafiles into a MassHunter data file format. Information on this program is provided below.

The GCMS Translator is a program that is supplied on the GCMS Supplemental DVD.  The primary function of the program is to convert older GCMS datafiles in MassHunter data file format.  This can be done as a single file translation mode or multiple files by browsing to the folder containing the datafiles.  In addition, there is a macro that allows automated translation of G1701 EA data files into MassHunter format. See below for instruction to automate the process.

Another feature of this program is that it can do an ‘in place’ translation or send the new files to another location.  An ‘in place’ translation will take the original data and add the MassHunter file format in the same data folder.  When in place translation is not activated, it will create the MassHunter file format in another location and maintain the integrity of the original data.

The GCMS Translator can also be used to translate old quant databases from G1701 EA software into quant databases in MassHunter format.

The GC AIA translator routine allows the user to convert AIA formatted data files into MassHunter file format. However, this is a ‘hidden’ function.  To activate this feature, copy the GC MSD Translator icon, rename it and add command line switch /QuantDB in the properties of the new icon.

Automated data file translation involves

1. Install the GCMS Translator
2. Copy MassHunterG1701DataTranslatorUtilityMacro.mac to the x:\MSDCHEM\MSEXE folder.
3. Declare MassHunterG1701DataTranslatorUtilityMacro.mac to be the Post-Run Instrument Control Macro.
4. Or this macro can also be activated in DeUser.mac.
