Although the instrument configuration panel allows 36 characters for the instrument name, report spacing limitations require truncation to the first 9 characters. You may use characters 10-36 to contain whatever information you like (e.g., theinstrument location or the analytical purpose) but you should assign instrument names such that the first nine characters comprise a unique name for each instrument in a multi-instrument laboratory. This practice will insure that printed results can be tied, unambiguously, to a particular instrument system.
