Today, we will introduce and demonstrate to you the start-up, shutdown, and main interface of the Agilent PHD-4 helium leak detector.
Let's begin with the start-up. Press the button in the upper right corner for longer than two seconds. It will automatically enter the PHD-4 booting interface.
During the booting process, the instrument will perform a self-check that will be introduced in detail later.
When the PHD-4 is booting, some self-tests are performed.
After normal startup, the sampling pump in the leak detector will remain in working condition. There will be a sound of pump running, this is normal.
There are five steps in the startup self-test.
- The first is the heater test. Because the PHD-4 leak detector is a device with a built-in ion pump, it has a heating function so there will be a pre-heating process.
- The second step is the battery test. It detects the various working conditions of the battery.
- The third step is sensitivity check. It measures the current helium background to verify whether the internal sensor is fully operative.
- The fourth step is sensor detection.
- The fifth step is sampling pump detection.
After completion of all five steps of the test, the instrument turns on successfully and you will automatically enter the main interface. Now the device is turned on successfully.
Let us introduce the four buttons on the instrument.
- The first button is reset. PHD-4 is a sniffer leak detector, so it will be affected by the ambient helium concentration.
There will be some fluctuations, so once such fluctuations occur, you can use this button to reset the background signal considering it as the “zero” point.
- The second button is the display backlight on/off button.
- The third button is the power-off button. You can use this button to turn off the entire device.
- The fourth button will get you in the main menu.
We will introduce each menu operation in detail in a separate video.
Now, let’s look at the device main screen. The current leak rate is displayed in the center of the screen. The lower right corner shows the current leak rate unit. In this case, millibar liters per second. The three small icons in the lower left corner. The first one shows the current power level of the device. The icon in the middle shows automatic zeroing setting.
The third icon highlights the signal trend. The “equal” sign shown here indicates that the signal is stable. When it is displayed as an up or down arrow, the trend is increasing or decreasing. Finally, here is how you can switch off the instrument.
After clicking the OFF button, the instrument will display a screen to confirm the shutdown.
Click “YES” to complete the shutdown process.
Thank you!
