Software Status Bulletin
UV VIS ChemStation G1115AA
Known Problem Report as of Mar 14 2017 10:27AM
Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.
User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented
in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been
classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.
How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.
To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the
Keyword Index section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line
descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR
# in the Known Problem Reports section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The
KPRs in the Known Problem Reports section are sorted by KPR #.
There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.
Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available
information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

Keyword:
One-line Description:
Tracking of deleted standards does not work
Problem:
In the security pack environment no raw data should be permanently deleted form a record. In standard mode this does not work for standard data. If the delete operation is performed, no dialog specifying a reason and the tracking in with the deleted spectra view is available. Standard data are permanently removed.
Temporary Solution:
When loading more than one results files in a sequence, the clear standards function is still offered. In addition the ability to overwrite the existing record is offered. See also TeamTrack ID 796 of the same project.
Fix Information:
Fixed in code.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Wrong date in instrument status displayed
Problem:
When using the instrument status window, the "Power on time" is displayed completely wrong. The date is in the future and unrelated to the PC/instrument time
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
The behavior of localtime() and localtime_s() are a little bit different, making some code changes necessary.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Invalid data not printed correctly
Problem:
In the Spectrum/Peak Report invalid or not available values should be indicated using "---" as with revisions prior to B.02.01. However, now various different values like zeros or -1.7977E308 are printed.
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
The core problem is the invalid value for displaying ‘***’ in tables. The default value can’t be ‘***’ (= invalid). The value can be set, but is rounded to the smallest valid value. The original UV-Visible code is setting the default value for the absorbance column to ‘***’ (= invalid). After setting the default value all values are set with there absorbance. The new code is now setting the absorbance column to ‘***’ (= invalid) for all peak rows, and after this setting the values to the absorbance.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
WordPad dialog partially in German language
Problem:
After the installation of the UV-visible ChemStation software B.02.01 on the supported operating systems, the Print Preview dialog of WordPad is displayed with German command buttons.

Fix Information:
Fixed in code.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Update of calibration view does not work always automatically
Problem:
When manually switching to the standard view in the UV-visible ChemStation's Quantification task, this view is not properly updated. Rather than displaying the standards and a calibration curve, sample data may appear with the "Processed Standard Spectra" window and the "Calibration Curve" window. When a Standard spectrum is acquired the two windows might be empty.
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
Fixed in code.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Remove "untitled" from reports where information is unknown
Problem:
Change the Uv-Vis code to eliminate the string "untitled" from any report where the data, method, or any other file has not been saved or is unknown. This is a customer request - In a regulated environment it never looks good to have "untitled" in a report. This generates a false impression that the data was lost or not acquired correctly. Also, when saving data to ECM add ECM location and filename to report.
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
Changed code to say "Results not yet saved" unstead of "untitled" on reports.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Advanced Analysis - Wavelength step will not accept small steps less than .2
Problem:
Any wavelength step under .2nm causes report generation to fail. Problem is located in the ChemStation Core command "DataGetMinMax"
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
Fixed to allow small incremental steps.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Keyboard Cursor Arrows not working to traverse graph
Problem:
In B.04.01 Uv-Vis the keyboard arrows do not work to move the pointer in small steps to different locations on the spectrum graph. This worked in previous versions and is a useful feature.

Password longer than 9 characters crashed ChemStation Session
Problem:
The access to the manager mode of the UV-visible ChemStation can be secured by providing a password. In the entry dialog for the password no length limit is given nor is the entry length limited to less than 10 characters. If a password exceeding 9 characters is specified, a dialog box pops up indicating a Chemstation execution error. Even a new launch of the ChemStation fails.
Temporary Solution:
n/a
Fix Information:
Fixed in SI62. Fix done in file password.cpp, part of agtuvvis.dlc.
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Kinteics Single Cell Measurements Can Lose Data Over Long Tests
Problem:
In Kinetics mode, a single cell setup can "lose" data over long tests. This is a firmware problem where the interval time counter apparently overflows and causes random times to be associated with the data. This jumbles the data and causes an empty gap when looking at the results. Note that the interval timer is reset with each measurement in Multicell sample setups, so the problem does not exist in Multicell. (Workaround for a single cell is to run in Multicell mode with one cell in position one).

Keyword:
One-line Description:
Need to be able to export Sample and Standard Data from Tables
Problem:
Currently the only way to export sample and standard attenuation data is with the focus on the graph window. If a spectra is selected from a table without focus on the graph window, only the hidden table data (not from spectrum) is exported. Need to be able to highlight a sample or standard in a table and export same as if highlighted in the graph.

Fix Information:
Update to Gilson GSIO library files version 2.0
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Change of integration time does not invalidate last blank
Problem:
When changing the integration time parameter, a new reference measurement (blank) must be forced. Usually this is achieved by clearing the last blank measurement. This works for changes of the lamp status, but not when changing the integration time parameter.
Temporary Solution:

Fix Information:
Fixed in code B.04.02
Keyword:
One-line Description:
Incorrect measurement counter of standard results during automation
Problem:
1. Start UV-ChemStation and switch to Standard Mode. 2. Setup a simple Method and Automation. 3. Open Automation Setup dialog and check “Save results to file”. 4. Enter a file name which is shorter than 40 characters (“StdMode_Automation”) 5. Run Automation 2 times. 6. Open windows explorer and check filenames of the 2 automations. Two files were created. Both starts with the entered filename: “StdMode_Automation”. Attached is a counter which fills up the filename with 0s until the filename contains 40 characters starting with 0. Here: “StdMode_Automation0000000000000000000000.SR” and “StdMode_Automation0000000000000000000001.SR”. 7. Open Automation Setup dialog again and change filename to “StdMode_Automation_HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” (40 characters, the maximum). 8. Run Automation 2 times again. 9. Open windows explorer again and check filenames of the 2 automation. Now only one file was created with name “StdMode_Automation_HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.SR”. No counter was attached to the filename. The second automation overwrites the results of the first automation.

One-line Description:
Possible to save methods to ECM with different file extensions.
Problem:
UV-ChemStation installed with ECM-Plugin. 1. Start ChemStation offline. 2. Switch to Standard Mode and create new method (File -> New Method). 3. Change method settings (Setup-Button from GUI). 4. Save Method to ECM (ECM -> Save Method As...). 5. Enter file name with file extension different from '.M' (e.g.: test.x). ChemStation saves the method to ECM with entered file extension and shows filename in GUI. It is not possible to load this method again from ECM with ChemStation because 'ECM Desktop Open'-dialog only shows files with extension '.M'.
Temporary Solution:
Workaround: Download method file via Internet Explorer, change file extension to '.M' and upload file via Internet Explorer again.

The lamp state of the method register was updated to handle lamp switch events from the 8453. The same problem occured when switching the UV lamp. This is fixed too.
Keyword: Autosampler
One-line Description:
Occasionally MCTs are loosing their correct stepper motor positions
Problem:
The 7- and 8-position multicell transports are loosing sporadically their correct stepper motor positions. When trying to fix the problem by performing the MCT recalibration procedure of the Verification and Diagnostics mode (Task: Maintenance -> MCT Test/Recalibration -> 'Start Test') a white bar shows up for the related MCT position indicating low intensity. In this case it might not be possible to realign the MCT by clicking the 'Recalibrate' button. Pressing the 'Default Positions' button to set the MCT stepper motor positions back to the factory values might also fail under these conditions
Temporary Solution:
To retrieve the factory default settings for the multicell transport a forced cold start has to be performed (refer to the service manual G1103-90003, page 147.) Note: It is recommended to perform a wavelength recalibration after the forced cold start is done.
Fix Information:
Fix under investigation.
Keyword: Autosampler
One-line Description:
XY-Autosampler x vial number increment does not work with all rack codes
Problem:
The XY-Autosampler setup offers the choice between incrementing the y vial number or the x vial number first. The option to start incrementing the x vial number first does not work with rack code 21. Using the Autosampler Control dialog, negative vial numbers are displayed. To leave this dialog, a valid vial number must be entered first.
Temporary Solution:
Use y vial number increment only for racks of type 21 or use racks of type 22.
Fix Information:

One-line Description:
Selftest UV-Vis 8452A hangs up
Problem:
The communication with the HP8452A shows sporadic errors. These errors are occuring in particular when using continous selftests.
Temporary Solution:
Communication with the HP8452A should be established using the USG to GPIB converter interface 82357A. The build-in PC GPIB interfaces 82350A/B are too fast for establishing proper communication to the HP8452A. In case of the occurence of a communication problem, the HP8452A should be power cycled and the PC restarted.
Fix Information:
No fix planned.
Keyword: Configuration
One-line Description:
The ChemStation s/w does not recognize that the lamps are switched on.
Problem:
If the ChemStation software is booted before the spectrophotometer is started, the lamp settings in the Lamp(s) Parameter dialog box (Instrument -> Lamp(s) ...) are automatically set to 'OFF'. After starting the spectrophotometer the software does not recognize when the lamps are automatically switched on, i.e. the lamp settings are may still be 'OFF' although the lamps are on. If the lamp settings are switched to 'ON' the current method will be flagged as modified which may lead to inconsistencies.
Temporary Solution:
Always start the spectrophotometer first and then boot-up the ChemStation software.
