What is the difference in adding Glutamax™ versus L-glutamine to the assay medium?

Glutamax™ is a dipeptide compound (L-alanine-L-glutamine) that does not spontaneously degrade and is commonly used as a cell culture media supplement. Alanine has been shown to directly enter the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) pathway and may provide inaccurate metabolic calculation when performing certain assays. When deciding on supplements, be aware of their possible effects on metabolism.
