Agilent Standards
Power your lab with Agilent solutions driven by industry standards

Meet industry standards… with one reliable source
For more than 40 years, Agilent has collaborated with organizations such as ASTM, ISO, and CEN to develop new petroleum, fuel, and lubricant standards. As such, we are uniquely positioned to design comprehensive, innovative solutions to make your workflow both productive and compliant.
Agilent combines excellent performance with low detection limits, minimal maintenance, and durability for high sample throughput. Manage your lab using industry leading solutions to meet and exceed your production specifications.
Natural Gas
Confidently determine composition and calorific value
The recent expansion of natural gas exploration and production has impacted market dynamics in a big way. For example, global natural gas prices are primarily based on energy content and other parameters measured by GC.
New technologies—such as the Agilent 7890B GC—deliver extended laboratory capabilities, and are easily configurable to any standard or custom method. They provide excellent chromatographic resolution and performance reliability when combined with Agilent columns, electronic pressure control, and linear flame ionization detectors.

Petrochemical
Quickly and reliably separate complex mixtures
Petrochemical feedstocks are primarily composed of natural gas condensates, while refinery off gas and naphtha are used to produce polymer-grade ethylene and propylene monomers. Agilent analyzers—configured for ethylene specification testing—enable trace-level detection of elements, permanent gases, and hydrocarbon contaminants in polymer-grade ethylene and propylene.
- Determine the elemental content and organometallic compounds in condensates and naphtha feedstocks with the Agilent 5977B MS
- Perform detailed hydrocarbon analysis and measure oxygenate content with Agilent GC analyzers—including the world-renowned 7890B GC
- Analyze contaminants in olefin production streams and polymer-grade ethylene/propylene with Agilent GC and GC/MS analyzers, and GC-ICP-MS systems for olefin production

Bioenergy
Meet the growing demand for alternative energy development
Biofuels—primarily biodiesel and ethanol products—make up approximately four percent of the global fuels consumption, and are typically blended into conventional petroleum fuels. Some of the unique challenges presented by biofuels include biological growth and oxidative degradation during storage. Blended fuels containing biofuels must also be tested to ensure they meet diesel and gasoline engine operating parameters.
You can confidently determine ethanol purity and detect biodiesel contaminants with Agilent analyzers, which are configured based on ASTM standard methods. For field work, you can rely on our portable systems—including the 490 Micro GC biogas analyzer, the 4500 FTIR analyzer, and 5500 FTIR analyzer. Trace metal impurities can be determined using ICP-MS, while elements such as sulfur can be measured accurately using ICP-QQQ.
