Specificity	In Western blotting with lysates of EBV-transformed lymphoblastoid cell lines, the antibody labels a major band of 57-66 kDa depending on the virus isolate, sometimes accompanied by a minor band of 50-55 kDa corresponding to full length and truncated form of LMP. The antibody recognizes 20 geografically distinct EBV isolates (7). The antibody cross-reacts with a 43-44 kDa doublet of uncharacterized normal cell proteins in cellular extracts including that from EBV-negative control cell lines (7). The antibody labels a normal EBV-positive lymphoblastoid cell line established by infection of normal resting B-cells with the B95.8 virus, whereas the BL2 cell line, established from a rare EBV-negative sporadic BL-patient, as well as other unrelated cell isolates, including tonsillar B and T lymphocytes, fetal liver and thymus, cultured fetal fibroblasts, human leukaemic cell lines HSB2 and K562 and 7 EBV-negative B-cell lines show no labeling, except the cellular doublet proteins (7).
