Monoclonal antibodies to CEA have been classified into five essentially non-interacting epitope groups, designated Gold 1 to 5. Dako Anti-CEA, clone II-7, belongs to epitope group Gold 1 and shows a high degree of CEA specificity (1). The antibody is a useful aid for classification of adenocarcinomas, notably in the gastrointestinal tract, including colonic and pancreatic carcinomas. Results also aid in the classification of secretory meningiomas (2) and medullary carcinoma of the thyroid (3).

Specificity
In ELISA, the antibody reacts with CEA preparations from both colorectal carcinomas, lung andenocarcinomas and the colon carcinoma cell line LS 174T, whereas the antibody does not cross-react with isolated CEA-related antigens, e.g. NCA-55, NCA-95, NCA-160 and BGP I (4). Based on ELISA, using reduced, carboxymethylated and Smith degraded CEA, the antibody is predicted to react with a conformation dependent epitope, in which the carbohydrate structures of the CEA glycoprotein are involved (4).
Using solid-phase competitive immunoassays, monoclonal antibodies to CEA have been classified into five essentially non-interacting epitope groups called GOLD 1-5. Monoclonal antibodies with a high degree of CEA specificity generally belong to epitope groups GOLD 1 or 3. Monoclonal Mouse Anti-Human Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA), Clone II-7, belongs to epitope group GOLD 1 (8). See package insert for reference(s).
