Software Status Bulletin
Headspace Driver Software G7318AA
Known Problem Report as of Mar 14 2017 10:27AM
Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.
User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented
in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been
classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.
How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.
To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the
Keyword Index section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line
descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR
# in the Known Problem Reports section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The
KPRs in the Known Problem Reports section are sorted by KPR #.
There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.
Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available
information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

Keyword:
One-line Description:
Vial Status does not update appended sequence originally sent from Queue
Problem:
For example, send two headspace sequences of 3 lines to the queue from Easy Sequence. While the first sample is running, open the native sequence table and append one or more vials. This makes the sequence in the Queue become uneditable correctly, but the Vial Status never updates and after a minute or two and error messages appear in the logbook.
Temporary Solution:
Either use the queue or the native sequence table - do not use both when running one sequence.

The GC Enters Prerun Too Early for Splitless Modes and Pulsed Split
Problem:
Set up a splitless (or pulsed split) method. The 7890 goes into pre-run at the beginning of the sample movement, rather than just prior to injection. This means for long vial equilibration times that the inlet is not being purged.
Temporary Solution:
Do not use splitless mode with the 7694 and G1888A headspace samplers.
Fix Information:
This will work in the 7697A headspace sampler with a minimum firmware revision of A.01.02. The user needs to deselect the "Manual Run on Prep Run Request" on the 7890 configuration screen to make it work.

The ChemStation Freezes if the Headspace APG Remote Cable is Disconnected
Problem:
If the APG remote cable is disconnected from the headspace during a sequence, the software becomes unresponsive. When the headspace makes an injection the ChemStation logs that the GC did not start, then the software becomes completely unresponsive. It must be aborted by task manager.
Temporary Solution:
Abort the software from task manager. Reconnect APG Remote Cable and Restart the ChemStation.
Fix Information:
This will be fixed in B.01.02 Headspace Software.

Partial Sequence Acquisition with GC ChemStation Using Headspace Samplers
Problem:
Partial sequence acquisition with GC ChemStation using headspace samplers is not supported. If it is used the headspace will run the entire sequence. This defect is documented in the G2070BA Software Status Bulletin (SSB) as KPR #1603.
Temporary Solution:
There is a patch available to provide the ability to run Partial Sequence acquisition using a headspace sampler with ChemStation B.04.03 DSP1 [54] and headspace revision B.01.01. The patch on B.04.03 DSP1 [54] and implementation in C.01.03 OpenLab ChemStation only work when the headspace is configured on the front inlet. It does not work when the headspace sampler is configured on the back inlet. To have this functionality available on the back inlet, ChemStation to B.04.03 SP1 or OpenLab C.01.04 is required.

7694B or G1888A: It is Not Possible to Run a Sequence using ALS as Injection Source With Headspace Software Installed
Problem:
This is applicable to the G1888 and 7694B headspace samplers on all data systems. If a GC is configured with a G1888A and 7693A ALS. The 7693A ALS is selected as the injection source and the method is saved. If a sequence is run with the autosampler as the selected injection source, the run completes but the sequence does not continue; it is locked up. There are 2 AgHSpace applications running in Task Manager and they are not responding and must be ended. The Chemstation session is also not responding.

Behavior of Method Download to the Headspace Sampler
Problem:
At the completion of a sequence, the first method in the sequence will be downloaded to the headspace sampler. This behavior exists on all headspace samplers and on all datasystems. For a description of the behavior: Create sequence with four methods: 1: AAA.m (HSS oven is 50deg) 2: BBB.m (HSS oven is 60deg) 3: CCC.m (HSS oven is 70deg) 4: DDD.m (HSS oven is 80deg) Start sequence and let the sequence finish. The method in the GC ChemStation is DDD.m at completion of sequence. However, the HS Oven temperature is 50deg. (HS oven tempareture 50deg is AAA.m). This is because the first method of the sequence is downloaded to the headspace. If ChemStation is closed or if you load another method - ChemStation shows a popup message. "Method has changed. Save current changes?"

The volume units of the loop size are inconsistent and the duplicate enter is needed to validate the custom loop size
Problem:
When configuring the "loop size" option in Headspace Configuration, there are two issues: 1. The unit for loop volume has both mL and uL (micro liter), which is inconsistent (see attachment) 2. When entering a specific volume and click "upload from instrument" or "OK", the volume is not validated, and it has to be clicked again to validate the entered volume.
Temporary Solution:
The instrument shows the different units because we sell loops marked as such. The duplicate enter issue for custom loop size was fixed in B.01.07.

Headspace cause "Method has changed" popups upon run completion without changes to the method
Problem:
The customer has a 7890 GC with 7697A HS (B.01.05.01) on OpenLAB CDS EE A04.06. After he upgraded 7890 FW to be A.01.16 (it was A.01.14 before) the message box (asking if you want to change the method even though no method changes were performed) upon completion of the runs was still happening and we have reproduced it a few times. We also enabled method audit trail for the method and upon completion of the run when the same message popped up we clicked on Yes. The original method didn't get updated but instead a Save As( a new method name) window appeared. Examining the audit trails for both original and newly saved method with a new name did not contain any entries about the method parameters change. This behavior is not observed when 7890 GC is used without HS.

The problem was fixed in B.01.07.
