Software Status Bulletin

Headspace Driver Software     G2924AA

Known Problem Report as of Mar 14 2017 10:27AM

Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.

User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented
in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been
classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.

How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.

To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the
Keyword Index section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line
descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR
# in the Known Problem Reports section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The
KPRs in the Known Problem Reports section are sorted by KPR #.

There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.

Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available
information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

KPR#:11  Product:Headspace Driver Software  G2924AA  A.01.04

Keyword:

One-line Description:

The headspace instrument will fail to start if Headspace is used as the injection source

Problem:

HeadSpace as an "Injection Source" is now available in ChemStation Revision B.02.01. However, the HeadSpace software, G2924AA Rev A.01.04, does not support this new injection source. If HeadSpace is used as the injection source, there is a failure to start the HeadSpace instrument.

Temporary Solution:

The workaround is to use the "Manual" choice as the Injection Source (as previously). Version A.01.05 corrects this issue.

Fix Information:

This defect is fixed beginning in HeadSpace Software revision A.01.05.

KPR#:34  Product:Headspace Driver Software  G292xAA  A.02.01

Keyword:

One-line Description:

Appended vials cannot be aborted.

Problem:

If a sequence needs to be aborted and there are appended vials in the sequence, the user must press the stop button on the front of the headspace to stop the instrument.

The user is not prompted to stop the headspace. The user will notice that they pressed "abort" in the software and the headspace instrument continues to run. The stop button on the headspace key pad must be pressed to stop the instrument.

Abort will stop the headspace instrument if the sequence does not contain appended vials.

Problem:

For example:
Create a three line sequence
Save
Run Sequence
Change Sample name to 'Change'

KPR#:41  Product:Headspace Driver Software  G292xAA  A.02.02

Keyword:

One-line Description:

The first headspace method setpoints are not reloaded at the end of a sequence when vials were appended.

Problem:

For example, a sequence is set up with methods H1, H2, and H3. HS1 was loaded when the sequence was started. While the sequence was running, two lines were appended. Both of those lines used method HS3. The sequence completed correctly. After completion of the sequence, GCMS ChemStation reloads the method that was loaded prior to running the sequence; therefore it loaded HS1.

The GC parameters are from the HS1 method. However, the HS parameters are the parameters from the last run method of the sequence which was HS3. The software knows that the method is dirty.

This does not occur if lines are not appended to the sequence. For example, just running a three line sequence HS1, HS2 and HS3. when HS1 is reloaded at the end of the sequence, the HS parameters are correct.

How to Add More than 1 Headspace to a System in A.02.02 Headspace Software

Problem:

During installation of A.02.02 headspace software, you must choose the number of headspace systems that will be run on GC ChemStation by selecting the number of GC's on the instrument screen.

User cannot click OK or Apply to save parameters after the second PCM is configured for the 7697 Headspace.

Problem:

When the second PCM is installed on the 7697A Headspace and "GC+HS control" or "HS control" is configured, the user cannot click "OK" or "Apply" to save the parameters in “Edit GC parameters” menu.

Temporary Solution:

1. If running the HS in "HS Controls Carrier Mode", go to the method editor for the 7697 and go to the Carrier tab and select the other option (pressure or flow) from whatever is selected. They'll be able to use the OK and apply button now and then they can reopen the editor and change everything normally, including changing the Carrier option back to their desired setting. This does not work if the system is in "HS+GC" mode.

2. Download the GC method via right click on the parameters screen. Before saving the method go to Instrument->upload 7890 method and then save the method. This will allow the user to set up your GC method, but not change the HS method.

KPR#:114  Product:Headspace Driver Software  G2924AA  B.01.03

Keyword:

One-line Description:

Appending runs to a sequence with a different method - headspace starts driving to new method temps before original runs finish

Problem:

Start a sequence with 3 runs in it all running the same method (80, 80, 95). During the first run append additional lines to the sequence that use a different method (45, 45, 60). During the second run, the headspace will start driving towards the new method's temperatures even though the headspace still has to run through at least 1.5 samples at the original temperatures.

If a sequence is built with all 5 runs pre-configured, everything works as expected.

Temporary Solution:

Fix Information:

Fixed in headspace driver revision B.01.04.

C.01.06 ChemStation with GC/G1888: last run completes but the ChemStation remains in the run state

Problem:

OpenLAB CDS ChemStation Edition C.01.06 with a G1888 sequence never finishes. The last vial completes but the sequence continues to be in the run state and must be stopped manually. Once stop has been selected, allow time for the system to process and cleanup. Try to avoid using abort.

Use of ABORT almost immediately terminates all ChemStation activities and processes. This has the potential to leave any currently running sequence in a strange state. Also any consecutive Data Analysis is aborted. When the ChemStation is connected to central storage (OpenLAB ECM or OpenLAB Data Store), no files will be uploaded to the repository after aborting the sequence. Loss of data may occur.
After using the Abort function, close and restart the ChemStation Application.

Always try STOP first and allow enough time for consecutive processing and cleanup.
