Software Status Bulletin
G1732 MSD Security Chemstation G1732
Known Problem Report as of Mar 14 2017 10:27AM
Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.
User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented
in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been
classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.
How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.
To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the
Keyword Index section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line
descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR
# in the Known Problem Reports section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The
KPRs in the Known Problem Reports section are sorted by KPR #.
There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.
Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available
information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

Selecting a Lib that is not imported doesn't give valid message & aborts DA
Problem:
In Data Analysis, select Spectrum/Select Library. Select a Library which has not been imported. one would expect to receive a message saying, "Please import library first" or something of that nature. However, the user will get "Access is Denied" and when selecting "Ok" to the message prompt an "Operand not defined for operand type." will then appear. If you then select Spectrum/Edit Library, immediately an Unexpected Program Termination error and Data Analysis appears and then closes the application.
Temporary Solution:
All libraries to be selected must be imported first prior to selection.

Problem:
If the user selects a library that has not been imported from Spectrum/Edit Library/Select Library, the selection is not recognized at all. The message "Please select a library on which to operate" appears. This message does not tell the user what is wrong. It seems to indicate that they accidentally didn't select a library. It should say, "Library must be imported first" or something like that.

MSD Security Software on Win XP Occassionally "Loses" the Default Printer
Problem:
Sometimes a message pops up when starting Instrument Control indicating the default printer has not been selected and the software closes/aborts.
Temporary Solution:
There could be two different ways to resolve or workaround this issue. For some systems just restarting Instrument Control will work, and for others reboot the PC and then reclare the default printer for the system.

Keyword:
One-line Description:
Not requiring signatures after a data acquisition print error
Problem:
The system has the configuration set to require signatures. Starting Data Acquisition and running a method the default printer was set to Microsoft XPS document writer. While being prompted for a name for the .XPS file, select cancel instead of entering a file name. This now leaves the system in an unconditional state (aborted macro routines). Now saving method, generating report, etc. did not require a signature.
Temporary Solution:
Restart Data Analysis to re-establish a stable compliant environment.

The MSD Firmware update firewall tool only works for Windows Firewall
Problem:
To update the firmware for the MSD, Agilent GCMS fwutil.net.exe is used and it was designed for Microsoft Windows Firewall only. If users try to update the MSD firmware while using a third party firewall utility, it is possible that the firmware could be corrupted during the download and make the MSD inoperative.
Temporary Solution:
During the MSD firmware the user will be prompted to make sure the firmware has been turned off. DO NOT continue with the firmware update until the firmware has been verified as being turned off.
If the firmware has to be left on, then make sure the firmware exception list has been updated to accept the MSD files.

'Unable to Stop Service' errors endlessly on removing CFR from XP
Problem:
Install G1732BA and then power cycle PC.
Select to restart the setup.exe again.
Select Remove.
It is possible that this could result in a cycle of two error messages (this depends upon how the system was setup/configured):
'Error String MsgBox_Unable_to_Stop_Service was not found in string table.'
OK
'Agilent GCMS Software Installation - InstallShield Wizard
MsgBox_Unable_to_Stop_Service'
Temporary Solution:
User should not see the message 'Unable to Stop Service' . However, if during uninstall, if user is asked to manually delete SecurityGCMS, then user should do following, 1. Go to X:\Agilent\SecurityGCM (where X is the target drive where security Chemstation resides. For example, if user install chemstation at D:\msdchem, X should be D.), Manually delete SecurityGCM folder idf it exists. 2. If user can not delete SecurityGCMS successfully, open Windows Task Manager->processes, if Agteventdistributor.exe(or Agteve~1.exe) is in the list, right click then select endtask, and try to delete SecurityGCMS again. 3. If you still can not delete SecurityGCMS, right click to bring up properties panel, select Security->Advanced->owner, check "Replace Subcontainers and Objects" box and change owner to Administrators . You will be asked if you want to take ownership. Click yes and close properties panel. Open properties panel of top directory. Click advanced and check the bottom box. Answer yes to proceed when system information box pop out. Close the properties panel. Now the tree is a totally open system.

Archive Results (Data Files) stops after ~10 seconds with "A string array can have between 0 and 500 elements"
Problem:
After loading config and selecting Archive/Restore menu and Archive Results (Data Files), the archival process stops after ~10 seconds with error message "A string array can have between 0 and 500 elements". There is no dialog box that allows user to select the data for archiving. No archival files are created. The option Archive All Results works fine. But this option archives all the data into one file. However, the user wants to be able to select what data to archive. The defect is that selective archival is broken if there is more than 500 data files.
Temporary Solution:
Point patch (G1732BA-003.m) is available as a temporary fix. It is deployed as method import and is only compatible with G1732BA B.02.

method multiplier saved in qdb.mth used as sample multiplier in reports
Problem:
With MSD Security ChemStation A.01.02, under very specific conditions it is observed that a report generated in Data Analysis uses the wrong multiplier. The problem arises during the following workflow: A sequence is used for data acquisition and afterwards for reprocessing the data files. All reports created during these sequence runs show the correct multipliers as specified in the sequence table. The user loads one of the data files with the multiplier associated to it in Data Analysis, modifies the method and saves it. SIM Group Switching Rep cycles/sec not matching SIM Grp Table cycles/sec
Problem:
SIM Group Switching Rep cycles/sec is not matching SIM Grp Table cycles/sec after AutoSIM. The SIM Group table relies on instrument type in making its calculations. The SIM Group table has different values than the SIM Group Switching report, which relies on the macro, dwpsetup.mac.
Temporary Solution:
The SIM group table in DA matches what is displayed in Instrument Control's Edit SIM Parameters panel.

Analyst and Operator cannot log on if change password is required
Problem:
From Local Users and Groups, added a new User and specified that the "User must change password at next logon". This user was placed in the Analyst group. Tried to logon via the Security Monitor and the logon failed. Went back to Local Users and Groups, and removed that the change password was required at logon and was able to logon. This also happens if you are an operator. Manager works.
Temporary Solution:
Before log-on, select 'Change Password' button in the Security Monitor. In the 'Change Password' dialog box, enter the UserID, Old and New password, and confirm the new password. Select OK. Log-on using your new password.

Cannot change who is logged on to Software with patch for A.01.02 installed
Problem:
With the above mentioned patch (G1732AA-005) installed, Windows PowerUsers and Users can launch the MSD Security ChemStation A.01.02, but the following critical defect is compromising data security on these accounts. When the currently logged on MSD Security ChemStation User applies a non-private lock to his ChemStation session, no user can access the ChemStation session when applying correct login name and password. An error message "Login Failed. Please try again." comes up. Pressing Control + Alt + Delete instead, allows the user to access the locked session again without having entered a valid combination of login name and password. Setting a private lock isn't possible at all, an error message "Could not create the registry key." is displayed. When the MSD Security ChemStation is operated on an Windows Administrator account, the lock works correctly.
Temporary Solution:
The patch released with Service Note G1732AA-005 must not be applied in order to prevent compromising data security as described above.
Fix Information:
With revision A.02.00 it is no longer necessary to install the G1732AA-006 patch, the original defect is fixed.

Methods are saved to sequence directory at start of sequence
Problem:
When you select Run Method or Run Sequence for data acquisition, the method to be run, or the methods in the sequence to be run, are copied into the run directory (either Run-... or Seq-...) before the run or sequence starts. The execution of the single run or sequence continues, using and updating the local copies, NOT the method versions in the ...\1\METHODS directory. If you pause the sequence to modify a method, be sure that you modify the local copy in the Seq-... directory, not the method in the ...\1\METHODS directory, because the latter will not be recopied into the Seq-... directory. If you want the changes in the local copies to be reflected in the ...\1\METHODS directory, you should explicitly load the most recent version of the local copy, and save it in the ...\1\METHODS directory. You must be acting in the role of MSDManager or MSDAnalyst to save a method in the ...\1\METHODS directory.
