Software Status Bulletin
M8244BA Thermo Fisher SII for OpenLab CDS
Known Problem Report as of Jun 1 2026 11:57PM
Preface
-------------------------
This Software Status Bulletin (SSB) documents all known problems in the software
product designated above. The SSB is derived from Known Problem Reports (KPR)
which result from user problems that have been classified as documentation
problems or software defects. When a KPR is written, an identifying number is
assigned to it, and the KPR is added to the next edition of the SSB.
User inputs that have been classified as Enhancement Requests are not documented
in the SSB. User problems that have been submitted, but that have not been
classified by the time the SSB is generated are not included in the SSB.
How to use the SSB
-------------------------
When you experience a problem with a product, first check this SSB to see if the
problem has been reported already, and if there is a temporary workaround
available for the problem, or if the problem has already been fixed by a new
revision. If the problem is not listed in this SSB then you may wish to report
it to the Response Center or to your field support representative.
To determine if your problem is documented in this SSB, first look in the
Keyword Index section of the SSB. Under each keyword is a listing of one-line
descriptions of related KPRs. If any of these sound like yours, locate the KPR
# in the Known Problem Reports section of the SSB, and read the full KPR. The
KPRs in the Known Problem Reports section are sorted by KPR #.
There are two sections in the SSB:
Keyword Index: This index is categorized by keyword. For each KPR there is a
brief description and a KPR #. A KPR may be associated with more than one
keyword.
Known Problem Reports: This section contains KPRs, with all the available
information relevant to the problem. KPRs in this section are sorted by KPR #.

Keyword:
One-line Description:
SII: No 3D Signals Available for FLD
Problem:
No 3D signals are provided for FLD detector in Data Acquisition even though the method allows to select 3D data collection.
Temporary Solution:
None.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of SII driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Trace GC, Integrion, Aquion: Method Part of the UI Not Accessible Due to Missing Scrollbar
Problem:
In Trace 1600/1610 method > Detector Time Program UI: When the Window is too narrow (e.g. when a second Window is open at its side) the Add/Delete/Sort buttons are not visible. There is no horizontal scrollbar to access this part of the UI. Similar issues happen with Aquion and Integrion.
Temporary Solution:
Workaround: close other window next to the method UI window.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.
Keyword: Performance
One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Aquion Remains Offline After Reset
Problem:
Aquion remains offline after resetting it from the instrument dashboard context menu of the Pump ECD; the module goes offline and does not start again.
Temporary Solution:
Use "Connect" option in the context menu of the module to bring the instrument back on-line.
Fix Information:
N/A

One-line Description:
Thermo SII Integrion: Setpoint Column Temp Shown Instead of Actual Temp in OpenLab Instrument Status
Problem:
The column temperature shown in the OpenLab Instrument Status UI dashboard for the Pump_ECD is the setpoint temperature, not the actual temperature.
Temporary Solution:
As a workaround, use the Thermo Fisher Instrument Status window that can be opened from the context menu of the corresponding module of the OpenLab Instrument Status window (right click on module-> Open Instrument View)
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
Termo SII: Integrion Method Editing Issues
Problem:
Method usability issues can arise when changing method settings in Integrion. E.g. when changing the type of an existing method in the Pump section from isocratic to multi-step gradient and entering a new row in the gradient table in the Gradient tab causes an error message (without clarification). Also, selecting a Flow tab or another method section causes an error message as well. Some other issues may arise in other tabs and fields when editing a method.
Temporary Solution:
The only way to avoid the error message is to delete the new row in the gradient table, go back to the Flow tab, change the method type to isocratic and then to multi-step gradient and go back to the gradient tab. This way the table can be edited without error. Some other issues may arise in other tabs and fields when editing a method and sometimes for them there is no graceful workaround and the only way to proceed is to create/load another method and discard all changes to the present method.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher SII: Take/Release Functionality Leads to an Unhandled Exception
Problem:
This happened sporadically with Ultimate HPLC but possibly happens with other instruments in a client/server environment. Repetitive use of Take/Release functionality for the same instrument on different machines leads to an unhandled exception: An unexpected error occurred and we cannot continue...
Temporary Solution:
Avoid using the Take/Release functionality if this happens on your system.
Fix Information:
The issue is fixed in OpenLab CDS 3.0

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher SII: SQL engine not starting after installation on Win 11 and Win Server 2022 OS
Problem:
During SII for OpenLab installation on Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022, the SQL Server Database Engine fails to start. The installer proceeds, several package install then fail, and the final configuration step fails and errors messages will be found in the SQL Server error log or in the Windows Application Event Log. ? SQL error symptoms may include: * 0x851A001A with “Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed.” * Error log entries about misaligned log I/O falling back to synchronous I/O. * Application faults (e.g., sqlservr.exe faulting in ntdll.dll, exception 0xc0000005). * LocalDB message about master files formatted for 4 KB now on a 16 KB sector-size volume. This happens for any version of SQL Server including LocalDB. ? Root cause: some Windows 11/Server 2022 storage stacks (notably NVMe) expose a physical sector size > 4 KB, which SQL Server does not support (supports 512 B & 4 KB only), preventing startup/recovery.
Temporary Solution:
There are several workarounds: * Use a drive with supported sector size (512 B or 4 KB) for SQL database files; select that location after SQL installation. * Force 4 KB emulation via registry key (Windows 11/Server 2022 NVMe driver): * Start SQL Server with trace flag 1800 to force 4 KB sector behavior for I/O.
Fix Information:
This is a Microsoft issue. There is no fix for it yet. Use a workaround described below.
Keyword: Reports
One-line Description:
Thermo SII Instruments: Missing Information in Module List and Reports for Some Modules
Problem:
Some instrument modules do not display Part Number and Serial Number in the module list and reports. This has been observed for AI/AS 1310 injectors configured with Trace 1310 GC and Ultimate DAD 3000RS detector.
Temporary Solution:
None
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revision of Thermo Fisher SII driver.
Keyword: Roles and Privileges
One-line Description:
SII: Instrument Control is Still Possible for User Without Manual Control Privileges
Problem:
A user without the privileges for manual control has all direct control options disabled in the OpenLab InstrumentStatus UI *except* the Open Instrument View option that opens the Thermo Fisher Instrument View. There, the user can change any settings of the instrument. The activity log tracks the changes, however, in some cases the computer name is logged instead of the user.
Temporary Solution:
Restrictions should be implemented via SOP to restrict users without permissions for direct control not to utilize SII Instrument View.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
SII: Configuring The First Instrument for SII Might Display Two Modules, One being Empty
Problem:
After configuration of SII instrument, two Thermo Fisher instrument modules exist, one of them being empty. Launching such an instrument displays an Initialization Error. This only happens on the freshly set up system and when configuring the instrument for the first time. Reconfiguring the same instrument does not result in such error.
Temporary Solution:
After removing the empty item, the instrument can be launched without issues.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Trace GC: Method Parameters Out of Range Warnings Not Properly Displayed
Problem:
In Trace 1600/1610 GC, some out of range method parameters warnings are not properly displayed. Sometimes the field is not colored red, UI is not reactive anymore, but without warning it is not obvious why. There is no warning dialog when clicking to another field.
Temporary Solution:
No workaround except thoroughly checking all fields for proper value entries. Use Help to see the ranges.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Trace GC: AI/AS 1600 Autosampler Missing Info in Module List
Problem:
For Trace 1600/1610 GC with an AI/AS 1600 autosampler, the Module List misses the details on the autosampler. Also, the sampler misses the tooltip showing the type of the module in the Status UI dashboard.
Temporary Solution:
N/A
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.
Keyword: User Interface
One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Aquion: Imperfect Method Parameters Input Validation
Problem:
The data input validation is not consistent throughout the entire method: sometimes the data is not checked for boundary conditions and error messages are missing, sometimes the number of decimal places is not verified and the method does not catch these upon saving the method; sometimes the tooltips are missing.
Temporary Solution:
Use Help feature for clarification of the input values and generally use common sense.
Fix Information:
To be considered for the future revisions of the driver.
Keyword: User Interface
One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Integrion: Waveforms Cannot Be Edited at First Trial
Problem:
An Integrion with AS-AP sampler a method with integrated amperometry does not allow to edit the waveform under EDet Option when a waveform selector is being edited for the first time: the waveform editor opens but the new name field is read-only.
Temporary Solution:
Workaround: Select “New waveform” in the waveform selector and click “Edit”. The waveform editor opens. Close it, select the waveform to be edited again and click “Edit”. The waveform editor opens and the name field becomes editable.
Fix Information:
To be considered for the future revisions of the driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo SII: ICS-6000 Acquisition Method Parameter Not Correctly Shown
Problem:
Upon loading, a saved acquisition method incorrectly shows a parameter for the Suppressor. However, it shows the correct value upon starting a run. Also, a message asking to save changes to the acquisition method appears even if no changes were performed.
Temporary Solution:
Navigating to the script, set the current value as desired and verify that the value is correctly set.

One-line Description:
Thermo SII: Not Showing Online Signals Outside a Run
Problem:
Thermo SII instruments do not display the online signal outside of the run (there is no preview of a signal). This is an instrument limitation that cannot be addressed via the driver. See a workaround below.
Temporary Solution:
Signal display can be manually started and stopped via the Instrument View. For that: Open Instrument View (context menu in Instrument Status)->Select Take Control-> Settings (gear icon on top, or F8)->Select the channel to be displayed (left window)->Commands Tab (right window)->AcqOn (check) The signal display must be turned off in order to start a run, or else an error message will appear. To turn off the signal before starting the acquisition, select AcqOff (check).
Fix Information:
This is a limitation of the Thermo Fisher hardware and cannot be fixed in the software.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher Trace GC, Integrion, Aquion: Method Part of the UI Not Accessible Due to Missing Scrollbar
Problem:
The lower part of the method setup is truncated/not accessible (even if there is no other window below) for some of the modules/tabs. There is no vertical scrollbar to access the missing part of the UI.
Temporary Solution:
Use "script editor" to adjust the method parameters not accessible due to the missing scrollbars.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revisions of the driver.
Keyword: User Interface
One-line Description:
SII module cannot be selected during configuration
Problem:
In rare cases it is not possible to select the Thermo Fisher chromatography modules (Vanquish and Ultimate instruments, possibly other) via the USB serial number during configuration. In these cases, the driver reports a code 39 error in the Windows device manager. The cause for this is the Windows core isolation feature.
Temporary Solution:
Deactivate core isolation on all AICs which connect to Thermo Fisher instruments. Core isolation may be managed by customer IT via group policies.
Fix Information:
To be addressed by Thermo Fisher in the future revision of the driver.
Keyword: User Interface
One-line Description:
Truncation in Pump Limit Field Makes Input Semi-Invisible
Problem:
The input numbers are not quite visible in the Pressure Limit fields in the Instrument Setup window of the Pump (upon entering 50--only 0 is seen). This was observed with different LC instruments and only happens in Chinese OS, ENG OS does not have this issue. The Script editor shows all numbers correctly.
Temporary Solution:
Use Script editor to view the fields instead of Method Setup window.
Fix Information:
Reported to Thermo Fisher.

One-line Description:
Dashboard shows pump as idle when running out of rear seal wash solvent
Problem:
A Thermo Fisher pump that has run out of rear seal wash solvent will show as idle in the OpenLab dashboard while showing not ready in the instrument view. A sequence started in this situation will abort immediately.
Temporary Solution:
Refill the rear seal wash solvent before submitting a new sequence when it is low.
Fix Information:
To be addressed in the future revision of the driver.

One-line Description:
Thermo Fisher SII: Open file dialog moved to back when tooltip is shown
Problem:
The dialog to open an acquisition method "vanishes" once the tooltip opens. This was observed with ICS-6000 but could possibly happen with other instruments.
Temporary Solution:
Click on the grey area below the method editor to bring the file selection dialog back into focus. Do not hover the mouse above an acquisition method file name to avoid the tooltip opening.
Fix Information:
This was reported to Thermo Fisher for investigation.
