Quarter-wave cables for ProTune
New 1/4 wave cables are being shipped with all VNMRS: Auto N/C/P and Auto Se-P
Changes were ECO'd and the cut over date was December 1st, so first installs will happen next week.
Below is the info that went out on the EU service note. This is preliminary as Knut will be working with Tech Pubs to update manuals.Short summary:
Talk to your customer before you choose which 1/4 wave cable to use for automatic probe calibrations!
(Two Probe files may have to be created for the same probe, if two different 1/4 wave cable setups are required.)1) Auto N/C/P - suitable for most customers; works for N15, C13, P31 and will cover three ranges: from 109Ag-17O, 77Se-129Xe, and 117Sn-31P, with some compromises in available power towards the edges of each range.
2) Auto Se-P - to cover the upper range of the X-band from 77Se-31P, for customers interested in using 11B in automation, again with slight compromises in available power towards the edges of the range. (Note that N15 is NOT covered!)
3) Performance - the set of quarter-wave cables used in considerably narrow operating ranges with minimized performance compromises (could be used for the probe's best performance verifications).

Available below are plots that illustrate the quarter-wave ranges and performance based on the upcoming ECO that will make the ProTune quarter-wave cables available as part of the standard VNMRS configuration, for frequencies from 400-700 MHz. At those frequencies, the 'ProTune quarter-wave', unchanged from the currently released version and referred to as Auto N/C/P, will cover the ranges from 109Ag-17O, 77Se-129Xe, and 117Sn-31P, with some compromises in available power towards the edges of each range. We also will provide a second automation quarter-wave, referred to as Auto Se-P, to cover the upper range of the X-band from 77Se-31P, for customers interested in using 11B in automation, again with slight compromises in available power towards the edges of the range. This quarter-wave cable did already ship with the old quarter-wave sets for VNMRS and INOVA (except for 700 MHz systems) and is already available to customers with existing systems. The other quarter-wave cables are required for a continuous operating range with minimized performance compromises.
Labels will be updated to refer to the changes in frequency range and function. Please treat the plots with the insertion loss information as Varian internal information!
The plots with the quarter-wave ranges can be passed on to customers as appropriate. Please be aware that we are not yet shipping the new configurations.
