Agilent Technologies introduces micro-fraction collection system for single or multidimensional chromatographic separation of complex peptide and protein mixtures

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 2, 2003

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a new separation system for proteomics researchers. The Agilent Micro-Fraction Collection system is specifically designed for single or multidimensional chromatographic separation of complex peptide and protein mixtures. It can separate small sample amounts at low flow rates and allows for the subsequent collection of very small fraction volumes.

Rapid and accurate identification and quantification of proteins and post-translational modifications -- in complete expression profiles or in the context of defined protein complexes -- is one of the goals of proteomics research. One key requirement for this goal is the ability to resolve the individual components of complex proteins and peptides prior to analysis. With limited sample amounts the challenge is to provide a separation tool that can be used for subsequent high-sensitivity mass spectrometric detection.

Reliability and Robustness Based on the Industry-Leading LC System

The Agilent Micro-Fraction Collection system is based on the successful Agilent 1100 Series LC system. It offers researchers a complete software-controlled separation solution for proteomics. Seamless integration of each module in the system minimizes internal volumes, assuring the highest separation performance and sensitivity.

Agilent Micro-Fraction Collection gives researchers the flexibility for multidimensional chromatography in two ways:

  • online through column switching using the Agilent 1100 Series micro valves; or
  • offline by collecting the desired fraction of subsequent dimensions.

It also allows researchers to perform enzymatic or chemical modifications of fractions between the separation runs.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

The Agilent Micro-Fraction Collection system is available now and is priced at $100,000. Shipments are expected to begin in August 2003.
