Devices Meet User Demand for Higher Quality
Böblingen, Germany, 03-06-2004
- Agilent Technologies today introduced two high-resolution
optical encoders designed to increase the performance of home
and office printers and image scanners. With the increasing
interest in digital photography and other graphic-intensive
applications, consumers expect higher quality graphic performance
from today's mid- to high-end printers, copiers and scanners.
The new encoders from Agilent's Semiconductor Products Group
offer this higher resolution with the size needed for high-volume
Optical encoders detect the position, speed and direction
of components such as print heads in inkjet printers, imaging
drums and rollers in laser printers and photocopiers, and
scan heads in optical scanners. Greater precision in detecting
these parameters results in higher quality printing and higher
Agilent's HEDS-973X-350 optical encoder offers a digital
output with 480 LPI (lines per inch) resolution, matching
the highest resolution provided by any manufacturer for office
automation applications. Agilent's HEDS-971X-150 is an analog-output
encoder providing 360 LPI resolution, higher resolution than
any analog encoder designed for office automation applications.
The HEDS-971X-150 delivers an effective resolution of up to
1,440 LPI when used with external interpolation techniques.
The HEDS-971X-150 operates over the +15 C to +45 C temperature
range and requires only a single 5V supply. The HEDS-973X-350
operates from -40 C to +85 C and can run off a 3.3V up to
5V supply. Both versions feature a 40 kHz frequency count,
making them compatible with high-speed operation. The encoders
are supplied in a lead-free module with dimensions of only
20.2 mm by 12.6 mm by 10.8 mm. Combining a highly collimated
light source and a unique photodetector array, the module
is extremely tolerant to mounting misalignment. The standard
modules are designed for use with an 11 mm optical radius
code wheel or linear code strip.
The Agilent HEDS-973X-350 and HEDS-971X-150 optical encoders
are available now through Agilent's direct sales channel and
worldwide distribution partners.
