Proven MP-AES Technology

Our users talk about the benefits of MP-AES technology for their laboratory.
River Water Monitoring Micahel Wang

"We used the MP-AES to integrate into our automated river water monitoring technology, which formerly used colorimetric and electrochemistry analyzers. With the MP-AES system integrated into our technology, we can quickly analyze all the elements we want with excellent repeatability, accuracy and detection limits. The low cost of operation and inherent safety of the MP-AES also makes it ideally suited to this remote river water application."

Analytical Laboratory Testing

“The low cost of ownership and simple user interface of the Agilent 4200 MP-AES make this system an excellent addition to our lab. Previously, we had to outsource trace-metal analysis samples to contract organizations. Now we have on-demand access to trace-metal analysis. Medical radiochemistry labs could benefit from this trace-metal analysis system, particularly those producing PET radiometals.”

Although limits of detection are somewhat higher than conventional ICP, the cost of ownership and lack of required maintenance makes the MP-AES system more viable in many applications. In our field of medical radiochemistry, it is also beneficial that we can run samples which are still radioactive.

Appealing features of the Agilent MP-AES include the simple sample-introduction system, as well as the nitrogen generator add-on. Not having to constantly switch out argon tanks is quite convenient. Furthermore, the ability to run tissue homogenate samples allows for greater research flexibility.”

Trace Metals in Wine

"Agilent’s MP-AES is well suited for the rapid elemental analysis of liquid samples such as wine and spirits. Because it is automated, it is easy to load and use, and frees-up valuable staff time with its walk-away platform.

Replacing our AA instruments with the Agilent’s MP-AES has enabled us to increase both the volume and range of samples we analyze in our laboratory. The platform is robust and can quickly perform sensitive multi-element analyses on a single sample, and provides rich analysis data with its impressive software capabilities. Its lack of drift provides a consistent QC range—even after 180 sample runs—which was not the case with the AA instrument.

I would recommend Agilent's MP-AES to all labs conducting elemental analysis in the wine industry."

Academia

"The MP-AES integrated into the Undergraduate teaching course seamlessly and introduced the students to the latest technology in elemental analysis. The new MP-AES removed the concern that we previously had over the use and handling of acetylene in the laboratory. The multi elemental analysis that the MP-AES offers has widened the scope of the teaching experiments that our students undertake."

Team Leader at University of Technology, Sydney

MP-AES User

"As a large-volume commercial laboratory serving the agricultural sector, we need high-performance analytical instruments that yield accurate results as quickly, efficiently and economically as possible. Agilent’s 4100 MP-AES technology is fast, robust and easy to use. It runs completely on air, making it safer and more cost-effective than AAS, and ideal for testing in remote locations.

We are now able to analyse exchangeable cations (Ca, Mg, K and Na) in 1 M ammonium acetate extracts of dried soils with a sample to sample time of 25 seconds, without fast sample introduction. The instrument is easy to operate, needs practically no warm up time and is very stable. The software is also intuitive and easy, so migrating methods from the AAS is simple. We routinely analyse up to 480 samples per day totally unattended.

Based on performance and cost, I recommend the 4100 MP-AES to anyone looking to replace their AAS technology. We have experienced a rapid payback on our investment."

Gold Analysis

"With the MP-AES instrument Agilent seems to have hit a homerun for both gold analysis and base metal analysis. It provides superior detection limits and vastly expanded calibration range – this enables quick easy analysis at trace levels as well as eliminates the need for time consuming dilutions of higher grade samples. All of this at an affordable price of well below that of ICP-OES and only slightly higher than top of the line AA units."

Environmental Analysis

"This system has changed the way I do elemental analysis because it provides flexible wavelength selection, better atomization temperatures, increased sample throughput, and enables simultaneous method development and sample analysis."

— TOM ODUOR OKUMU
Analyst at Kenya Bureau of Standards, Kenya

Soil Analysis

"The results we have seen for our aqua regia soil extract samples are convincing, and those results are in very good agreement with the round robin, which was performed Europe-wide on those samples."

— Frank Symossek

Diesel & Biodiesel Analysis

"Two important advantages of this instrument are its low running costs and laboratory safety, as no expensive or flammable gases are required. Considering cost, performance and multi-element capabilities, the Agilent 4100 MP-AES is a suitable and efficient alternative to flame AA for this application (determination of silicon in diesel and biodiesel) and presents better performance for critical elements such as the one investigated here."

Analytical Laboratory Testing

"We are using MP-AES instrument for last couple of months, and we found instrument is best to detect trace metals compared to AAS. In AAS sensitivity for B and P is very poor and fuel cost is very high, whereas using the MP-AES, sensitivity is very, very good and fuel cost is very low. In AAS, with elements like Al, Ca, Mo, Ti, V, Si etc, it consumes high quantities of Acetylene and Nitrous Oxide gas, and is very tricky - whereas using the MP-AES, it is very easy to detect. There is also no need to change Hollow Cathode Lamps which is time consuming and costly."
