PALO ALTO, Calif., July 25, 2005 Varian, Inc. (Nasdaq: VARI) today introduced the new Varian SH-110 Dry Scroll Pump to provide reliable, dry vacuum in a small, economical package. This single-stage, high-performance vacuum pump is designed for easy integration into original equipment manufacturer (OEM) systems for a variety of applications, including analytical instrumentation. The pump is also well suited for end-user applications including industrial research and development (R&D) and high-energy physics. The hermetic SH-110 Dry Scroll Pump offers a number of features that contribute to low cost of operation and high vacuum performance for OEM applications. With a pumping speed of 110 liters per minute (l/m), the Varian SH-110 provides the fastest pump-down time in its class by developing up to 10% more pumping speed than competitive scroll pumps. It reduces power consumption and heat generation for system applications because its standard one-quarter horsepower motor has a lower starting current, low operating power, and low temperature. Uniquely, the Varian SH-110 features an integrated vacuum isolation valve that prevents accidental contamination of the vacuum system as well as saves space and money by eliminating the need for an exterior valve. Weighing five pounds less than comparable scroll pumps, it gives OEM customers added design flexibility. "Our new SH-110 Dry Scroll Pump should be an attractive product across our various customer segments, including mass spectrometers for life science and industrial applications," says Sergio Piras, Varian, Inc. Vice President, Vacuum Technologies. "We continually strive to improve the performance and usability of our vacuum products to meet and exceed our customers' expectations." The Varian SH-110 Dry Scroll Pump is currently available for order and shipment. About Varian, Inc.
