Agilent Technologies to Demonstrate Enhanced HDMI Test Solution Portfolio at CEA 861/HDCP PlugFest14

Latest Additions Enable Device Characterization, Address Requirements of the HDMI 1.4a Specification

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 14, 2010

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) will demonstrate its expanded High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) test solution portfolio at the CEA 861/HDCP PlugFest14, May 16-21, in Milpitas, Calif.

Agilent's new HDMI test solution update allows engineers to test features recently introduced by the HDMI Test Specification 1.4a, such as the new 3-D video format support. In addition to the HDMI protocol compliance tests, the test solution also supports device characterization with complementary software from Agilent's solution partner, BitifEye Digital Test Solutions.

Agilent and BitifEye have been involved with HDMI since the standard was first established. Agilent's goal is to help companies meet compliance testing requirements and address the challenges presented by this technology. The company is committed to contributing its expertise to advance HDMI and to continue working with the industry's Authorized Test Centers (ATCs) to offer a complete and reliable test platform. This effort will ultimately help manufacturers design and build better consumer electronics products. Almost every ATC uses Agilent's HDMI test platform to test products, identify problems, measure data, and determine whether tests have passed or failed.

Benefits of the combined Agilent and BitifEye HDMI 1.4a test platform include:

  • The addition of mandatory 3-D formats for broadcast content as well as the addition of the 3-D format referred to as Top-and-Bottom.
  • Device characterization on the protocol level with BitifEye's new HDMI frame generator for the Agilent N5998A protocol analyzer and generator, BIT-HDMI-FG-PAG. The N5998A enables the systematic variation of video formats, video content and control packages.

Agilent's HDMI test platform includes:

"We have a track record of developing tools that provide significant value on the physical, data-link and protocol layers of HDMI," said Thomas Dippon, HDMI program manager at Agilent. "The flexibility of the test platform provides unprecedented product characterization capability. As an active member of the HDMI organization, Agilent continues to quickly implement the latest additions to the test specification. This helps our customers and partners meet the opportunities and challenges presented by HDMI."
