BARCELONA, Spain, 3GSM, Booth D45, Feb. 12, 2007
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced it will demonstrate measurement solutions that address 3G Long Term Evolution (LTE) needs, and that are designed to provide today's R&D engineers with a level of performance and functionality not currently available with competing solutions. The demonstrations will occur here this week in Hall 1, Booth D45.
The 3G LTE initiative is intended to provide a framework for the evolution of 3G toward a high-data-rate, low-latency and packet-optimized radio-access technology. Its aim is to achieve a peak downlink cell data rate of 100 Mbps and an increase in capacity of three to five times compared with HSDPA (in the same bandwidth), with latency as low as 20 ms. While LTE has the potential to enhance 3G networks and enable significant new service opportunities in relation to mobile TV and video, its commercial success requires the early availability of measurement solutions that parallel the standard's development.
Agilent is addressing LTE needs via its Advanced Design System (ADS) LTE design library, which can simulate uncoded EVM and features constellation and BER receiver measurements for the downlink with the latest subcarrier specifications. Agilent also provides flexible, platform-based equipment that works in conjunction with ADS to generate and analyze real signals. A working concept of Agilent's dedicated LTE signal analysis capability will be demonstrated on the show floor. It provides R&D engineers with deep insight into the RF and modulation characteristics of an LTE signal.
"As with any emerging wireless communications standard like 3G LTE, appropriate use of measurement solutions is key to commercial success," said Ron Nersesian, vice president of Agilent's Wireless Business Unit. "Agilent's LTE measurement solutions provide designers with the tools they need today to begin development. We will continue to develop and introduce new products to meet specific LTE measurement challenges as they are identified. As LTE moves toward commercial deployment, for example, Agilent will provide manufacturers and wireless communication service providers with tools to successfully speed time-to-market and maximize their return-on-investment, respectively. Such tools will play a crucial role in accelerating the delivery of next-generation wireless communications networks based on 3G LTE."
Throughout 2007 and 2008, Agilent will introduce several new measurement products and solutions specifically designed to address the emerging needs of LTE -- including pattern generators, logic analyzers, signal generators and signal analyzers, as well as a one-box tester. These offerings will support early R&D in components, base station equipment and mobile devices with design automation tools and flexible instrumentation. Agilent will also introduce solutions for manufacturing as LTE products near commercial launch.
