Product enhances protein detection and identification for biomarker research PALO ALTO, Calif., March 16, 2005
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a liquid chromatography (LC) column for the separation and desalting of complex protein samples. The Agilent Macroporous Reversed-phase C18 (mRP-C18) High-Recovery Protein Fractionation and Desalting LC Column enables proteomics researchers to more efficiently detect and identify potential biomarkers in complex samples such as serum or plasma by providing high sample recovery (greater than 95 percent), resolution and reproducibility. The mRP-C18 column is the latest enhancement to Agilent's protein separation solutions for proteomics research. In combination with Agilent's Multiple Affinity Removal System for immunodepletion of high-abundance proteins, the mRP-CI8 column will improve the ability of researchers to uncover new proteins that may act as markers of diseases such as cancer and therefore may represent targets for drug discovery and development. "Agilent's mRP-C18 column offers significantly improved protein recovery and identification compared with other protein fractionation methods," said Tasso Miliotis, associate principal scientist at AstraZeneca R&D in Molndal, Sweden. "Moreover, this procedure is less time-consuming and can be automated, dramatically increasing the efficiency of our laboratory." "The mRP-C18 column strengthens Agilent's leadership position in protein separation sciences for biological applications," said Fran DiNuzzo, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Integrated Biology Solutions business. "In combination with Agilent's hardware and software solutions, the mRP-C18 column will increase researchers' productivity and confidence in their results and, as a consequence, facilitate the discovery process." The mRP-C18 column provides up to three times more protein loading than conventional HPLC columns. Up to 380 micrograms of total protein mass can be loaded onto the 4.6 x 50 mm, reusable column at once, without any reduction in resolution. Minimal sample preparation is required, reducing the chance of protein loss. Availability Agilent's Macroporous Reversed-phase C18 (mRP-C18) High-Recovery Protein Fractionation and Desalting LC Column (5188-5231) is available now and is compatible with the Agilent 1100 Series Liquid Chromatography System and other commercial HPLC systems.
